In recent times, Kumasi City Incubation Hub with other hubs and consultants are being engaged by the Ministry of Business and Development to introduce the concept of entrepreneurship in the second cycle institutions in Ghana. The program which is under the theme & “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education-A Bridge to realizing Ghana beyond Aid Agenda” seeks to provide an avenue through which students can think outside the box, nature creative and innovative talents and skills to cope with life outside school, either on the labour market or for job creation. KCIH was selected out of several hubs in the Ashanti region to solely execute the SEI program in some selected schools in the Ashanti Region. KCIH under the SEI project has formed Entrepreneurship Clubs in the following second cycle institutions in the Ashanti Region;
- Opoku Ware Senior High School
- Bekwai SDA Senior High School
- Ejisuman Senior High School
- Achinakrom Senior High School
To generate excitement among Senior High Schools, there will be Business Plan Competition at a national level to pitch the best of ideas among the competing schools. Each club was taken through eight (8) modules of studies to equip them for both the competition and life after school. The following are the modules presented;
- Entrepreneurship Discovery Process
- Product or Service Creation
- Company/Firms Legal Structure
- Marketing & Sales
- Entrepreneurship Financing
- Record Keeping
- Definition and Explanations of Business Plan
- Communication Your Business Concept – Pitching
The total number of students trained and enrolled in the entrepreneur club is over 1,200. We are pleased to be part of the SEI program which aims at sending entrepreneurship education to students at the second cycle institutions. We are also of the same view that, when students are exposed to business concepts and plans at an early age, there is a tendency for them to think entrepreneurially and begin to develop products and services while in school.
